About Me

Sally Baker has been passionate about women and woman's issues for as long as she can remember. She is a mother, social worker, ex-doula, childbirth educator, counsellor, mentor, trainer and facilitator. She has a Social Work Private Practice in Bryanston where she specializes in supporting people through all experiences and transitions. Her focus is on helping people "birth" more of themselves hence the name "Birth Support". When Sally isn't counselling, she offers Birthing From Within Childbirth and Parenting Preparation classes and a Mothers group called Mothers Birthing Circle Workshop. Sally also offers empowering woman's workshops, loss support and Birth Story workshops

Her professional training is as a social worker. The varied and vast experience she has gained working as a doula and listening to parents and supporting them though pregnancy, birth and the first few days, weeks and months of parenthood together with her social work counselling experience has put her in a unique position to offer counselling, groups and workshops to people during this phase of their lives. In her private practice she has developed a specialty in birth trauma counselling and helping mothers with post-natal stress, depression and adjustment difficulties. Sally is a member of the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers in America. Sally has presented many talks and workshops on both birth trauma and post natal depression & anxiety and has presented at a number of Symposiums for various professionals. She has also been a guest on many radio and television programs.

She was involved with the Post Natal Depression Support Association (PNDSA) and the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG). She trains their counsellors. Sally was the producer and organiser of the world renowned play BIRTH by Karen Brody which was performed in Johannesburg in 2012.

She has attended many workshops and training's in both America and England besides South Africa over the last 14 years. These trainings combined with her experience have given her extensive skills and knowledge to help, prepare and support women and their partners during fertility treatments, birth preparation, and the post birth time and parenting. Her experience includes; breastfeeding support, working with sexual abuse survivors, trauma, PTSD and birth trauma, loss, postnatal depression, process art and couple counselling. She has attended advanced Birthing From Within training in America and is also a certified BOLD Method (formerly Fear to Freedom in Childbirth) facilitator. She is also trained in Yoga Nidra Mediation. Sally is currently attending a post graduate course for a Certificate in Perinatal Education at University of the Witwatersrand. Sally has attended trainings on Mindfulness and Solution focused Therapy. She is qualified as a Brain Working Recursive Therapist (BWRT), Level 1 and Level 2.

She wishes all women to feel good and confident about themselves and their mothering and therefore she facilitates a space where women and their partners can find their inner strength, wisdom and connection. Over the years she has learned there are many ways to give birth and that birth is far more than a medical event. Birthing is a life altering, rite of passage that transforms individuals into parents. Sally loves preparing parents to give birth in awareness and become conscious parents as every birth and every mom and dad are different.
